2019 Ranger Ecoboost Oil Change Interval

What oil change interval are you using?

I asked this question in the "Oil Change Process" thread.. but I'm thinking a dedicated thread makes more sense.

These motor's aren't our old school normally aspirated motor's. The turbo's and the gas direct injection (GDI) makes oil change intervals less. A buddy of mine has a GDI turbo charged Audi and his mechanic specializes in these motors. On his Audi he changes the oil every 3,000 miles.

My truck has 3,300 miles and the oil has barely even started to change color.

At this point I'm thinking the best plan is that I will rotate the tires and change the oil every 4,000 miles?

What say ye 2019/2020 Ranger owners?

Yup, I did my first change at 1,000 miles for break in. And I'll be doing them every 3k from now on. GDI makes a mess of the intake valves and the turbo has tiny little oil passages. Why risk it by trying to run longer.

I'm not changing my regimen just because the truck has an "oil life sensor/system". I'm still changing my oil and filter every spring and fall just like I do on all my other vehicles along with a bunch of other preventative maintenance things that I do at that same time.

1st oil change, (for free)was at dealership I purchased from, at 1900 miles--Oct 3--now has 6000 on it, oil gauge has 60% remaining, but I'm changing it myself now (4000 this time), --will continue after this to do my changes at 5000 miles, tire rotations at 3000 mile intervals

I noticed the dealer sticker also said 5000 mile interval

The owner's manual says not to exceed 10,000 miles if the indicator doesn't come on. And I thought the 7,500 miles or 6 months was too long on my 2011 XLT and 1999 Honda CR-V. The time interval was fine since that is what I do anyway but the mileage is too much, even with synthetic in my opinion.

I run full synthetic in my explorer (3.5 ecoboost) and change every 6k miles. Sent a 5k mile sample to blackstone for used oil analysis and they said it looked great and could extend to 6k miles. I've actually got another sample to send in, thanks for the reminder If you want actual data instead of guesses, used oil analysis is the only way to go.

btw, im running an aftermarket tune, water/meth injection, catch can, etc. your results may vary.

To each their own. What does your owner's manual tell you and are you still under warranty? If you still are, going that long might void your warranty if the manual says to change it sooner.

Good question... I don’t know what my owners manual says. I know I changed the oil at 4K miles but didn’t reset the thing until it said it was time to change the oil... at 14k miles. Over 3 oil changes later!!!

6 months/3k as it was and forever shall be. It freaking cost less than 30 bucks to change your oil. Go out there and change it! I'll wait...

Personally, I run Amsoil in all 3 vehicles two of which are NA motors those I change @10k with a mobil1 oil filter and I have an Si that’s supercharged and I change that about 7500miles.... Only because it’s boosted and tend to run it harder.... in your case if I was running a full synthetic I’d change it once a year, or twice a yr if using Dino oil or semi synthetic....There are gonna be plenty of people that say this or say that, however all 3 of my motors look like brand new engines inside. There isn’t even the slightest bit of discoloring of the internals.

I go 5000. Plain and simple, easy to remember. I could care less what the Oil reminder says, My 1st change was 2 weeks ago. The oil was nearly as clean as Day 1. I'm not overthinking it.
