They have released pics and stats of the new 2015 f150. Today at the detroit auto show.

What do you think of it?

I kinda like it. But the grill is to much yota tundra

I agree, there is quite a bit of yota in the grille... not my favorite part.

But I have been stuck on FX4's since '09 because if the big gaudy chrome grilles on the XLT.

I like the concept of the aluminum body, the 10 speed automatic and all the electronics they have been adding lately... not so big on.

It probably has the most potential of anything to replace my '02 someday... still don't like the size/feel of the '04+ F-150's though.

offs...

Let's see...I bought my 88 Ranger in 2001...that was a 13 year wait...so, by this formula, I can buy a new 2015 F150 in 2027...and spend the next 14 years trying to keep it on the road...lol

I will also be retired and probably living on dog food and crackers...

Haven't actually seen the newest version but...haven't been looking...mainly because I don't like the last 10 years or so of them and I don't think they are getting better...more complicated...more expensive to fix...but I do like what I hear about the Ecoboost engines...

EDIT:

Hmmmm...I take that back...not bad looking...

fuel goblin shitcans in these parts lately. winter time been producing 11-13 mpg

but they seem to respond ok when the warranty is done and some deletion and tuning take place.

Trucks these days arent trucks anymore. Do I really need all those electronics in the cab, in dash screens, etc...no just another cheap Chinese thing made to go out in a few years that will cost $500 to replace. I would br happy with a radio that plays my cds and has an AUX port to plug my phone into so I can listen to music of it.

Trucks used to be something that if you got the inside dirty or you spilt a drink, not much to get mad about. Now it looks like if you do that you are going to be replacing something that isn't going to be cheap to replace either.

I don't know what generation of people are designing these trucks but the term "less is more" applies.

I understand that the government is cracking down on emissions even harder and wanting more fuel economy out of vehicles but how long are these vehicles going to last now a days after you make the final monthly payment on it? And like Mark said. When is the average joe going to be able to afford a truck like this, 10 or so years after it was new? Hard enough anymore to get by with affording the essentials. Most vehicles I see on the road are at least 10 years old and these are new to the people that own them.

I consider my 97 tbird to be new seeing as it is the last year they made them (that is my the ones that came later that look like the ones from the 50s era) and that it is the youngest vehicle I own at 17 years old and has 190k on it. Paid $750 for it.

Don't get me wrong, if I was given one of these trucks, sure I would drive it. Chances of one being given to me, might as well pay the lotto, have more of a chance of hitting that.

I can only imagine what process has to be done to do routine maintenance on this truck, like change (or even check) the oil or change the spark plugs, we all know that they are making it so that you either have to grow another limb to do it, but a special tool or do what they wanted/forced you to do in the beginning, take it to your friendly stealer...uhh..dealership and have them do it.

Rant over for the night for me, time for bed.

Nothing more than originality points IMO. It can make them look desperate or trying to look like something else. Toyota has been doing it for years though and they still have a good following.

The FX4 and those with a color surround look really sharp, the gaudy all chrome ones look like a Tundra.

The really neat thing about modern trucks is you can get them however you like, you don't have to get dash screens and whatnot. They still make XL's with manual everything and rubber floors. Just now rather than the factory in dash mounted CB's they had in the 70's and 80's they can talk to your phone and has built in GPS for the high end ones.

Ford and their dealers makes big bucks on those accessories so they really push them but they still do make "real world" trucks.

The wiring I don't like is the really fine stuff they are going to for weight, I question how it will hold up long term. Something close to telephone wire. I am not on the market now so it isn't a big deal to wait and see how it holds up.

I don't care if a new truck costs $2k new, I am the type that would rather buy it 2-3 years old for $1500.

I couldn't buy a brand new truck. I would actually not do work with it because of the thought of scratching, denting, etc...it. But if I were to get a used truck, not as big of a deal to me I for some reason.

Also a new truck (vehicle) screams out at people and gives to much unwanted attention that I don't want, at least what you get from a new vehicle.

I like chrome, don't get me wrong, but it loss better on the old 50s vehicles. The vehicles now a days, some reason, it just doesn't look right on them, or at least where they are putting it, around every vent directionalizer thing, shift handle, etc...

My big thing is when I open the hood what am u going to see. An engine that has had time put into it to look good or a plastic cover that has had that treatment instead.

All the trucks look like they are starting to mold into the same looks on the inside and out and the only thing that is going to separate them is what company logo is going to be branded on it.

Guess I'm just a sucker for the 70s straight axle 4wd trucks.

I haven't seen a real pickup truck in years. The only pickup trucks that have four doors are the dually crew cabs that need to fit a 3-4 man crew for a days work with the bed full of supplies and a trailer being towed behind.

Truck looks cool and that's about it. On the job it started with making fun of the guys who bought Dodge trucks with the carlike tailpipe cutouts in the bumpers and all the chrome. Now almost every new guy on the crew has some 4 door useless truck with at best 5ft bed smaller than my Ranger. Its sad when only a few guys on a crew can actually fit ladders or lumber to a truck.

I guess trucks have really gone to a new market because they all look like Honda Ridgelines now, 4 doors and a bunch of stuff to break on the inside like a car.

They never quit building SuperCrew 8' bed duallies. Few people have a use for them myself included. They never were that common for a personal truck.

I could get by with a standard cab (historically by far the most common cab) but I really enjoy the increased room from the extended cab a long with the more weathertight secure storage (long gun and bow cases fit perfectly) Also great when I grab bulky interior parts at the JY I am afraid of blowing out of the back on the hour drive home. It has been years since I have stuffed anybody back there. When I need a longer bed I throw on a trailer and haul. Usually unless it was the big ditch witch to put in my water line or one of my tractors it goes in the back just fine.

We have a F-250 at work that gets about the same treatment, nice to keep all the A/C stuff and monitors in the exended cab rather than the utility box that always gets full of gravel dust.

Thing with a trailer is it's another insurance and licence plate payment.
