2011 Ranger XLT - Transfer case will not shift - DTC 1891-6F, 1867-2F

I'll look in the Service Manual and see if there is any troubleshooting information.

Snoranger was kind enough to bring Parts Catalogs to the meet. Let me know if you need any parts number since I saved the catalog for 2011.

Appreciate it greatly, reading through it.

What is odd to me is that the DTCs won't clear, no matter what I do.

Bad wire in connector, or bad wire. If you know your wiper plate is good...may just need spun if it's corroded from sitting in warehouse

Nope and nope. Carpet is coming out this weekend-ish.

P1867 and P1891 are of course set by the 4x4 CM in a 2011 not the PCM, its just passing them along

Both refer to the 5 wires between shift motor and 4x4CM, the "sensor wires", so could be a bad wire
Or bad shift motor or bad 4x4CM

Unplug the 4x4CM

Clear codes and see if same codes come back, drive it a bit if you don't need 4WD

PCMs are not 2WD or 4x4 specific, so no 4WD codes should come up at all from 4x4CM being unplugged, if so it may be a PCM issue in interpreting CAN Bus data

So.... basically if literally everything else checks out on wiring... I'm staring down pcm replacement?

Neither code appears with 4x4CM removed, only come onto system with either 4x4CM plugged in.

Neither can be cleared with forscan while either 4x4CM is connected.

So not the PCM :)

Both 4x4CMs are 2007 or later models

With 4x4CM plugged in, clear codes and Unplug the shift motor and see if they come up, if not then problem is not the wires or 4x4CM, problem is in the shift motor or its connector wiring

If codes come up then its 4x4CM or wires

4x4CM does a self test on power up and also "looks" to see what "gear" transfer case is in, and that it matches the switch on the dash

That is why I am thinking bad wire

It's not connected to the t case but grounded still

That wiper tracker dealio in the later setup does get corroded though and reports lost in space.... actually...might be confusing that with the 150.

..my lazy ass would just hook up an earlier system laid over till spring has sprung.

I seem to remember Rangers having the same issue and that it has been commented fro time to time as being a possibility.

@PetroleumJunkie412 if the motor checks out, I'm leaning towards there being a wire issue. Make sure to check the connectors as well to make sure there isn't corrosion in the connectors or a broken tab in the connector.
