I checked this is on when i crank it. So go back and check the wire to the Crank sensor.

Then either PCM is bad or crank sensor signal is not making it to PCM

No, I can hold the screw driver and see the cranking spark. It 100% is possible because I have done it many times.

If I can hold the screw driver, and observe a spark to the head or block or intake, really any major metal part of the engine, while it is spinning over, that is an effective test of cranking spark. And I have done it many multiple times in my years of owning 2.9s. I can even assess the health of the coil and TFI on a 2.9 by the color and quality of the spark.

This. That's why I said to tap the crank sensor wires as close to the PCM as you can get and see if that same AC voltage is there.

The sensor is clearly generating a signal since you have voltage down at the sensor.

There are no other connectors in line between the sensor and the module, so a poor contact at an inline connector is ruled out.


Do you have access to an oscilloscope? Do you have access to a proper set of flex probes?

True, it won't show timing, but it wouldn't show timing on a single cylinder engine either. A timing light would show both spark and timing, but not quality, and you need plug wires for that.

The ether test would show both.

But neither is relevant to the OP's issue at this point. The PCM already admitted it isn't firing the injectors OR the coils because it doesn't think the engine is spinning.

I check the wire for the crank oms read is .01 for both. replaced the crank sensor again thinking is was a DOA. nothing still only cranks. thinking is a issue with the tone ring.

If tone ring was not close enough then you wouldn't have gotten the 0.5-1.0vAC reading on your meter that you have before
Crank sensor generates its own voltage

As Adsm08 said if you use sewing needles to pierce the Crank sensor wires(tap the wires) at PCM, then crank engine you should see the AC volts if crank sensor and tone ring are working

the reading is in ohms. .01 ohms from the PCM to crank sensor on both wires. not power I check the power there it nothing no power from the sensor.

You found the issue, well at least the first main issue, crank sensor starts the ball rolling on all other PCM functions, its the Big Kahuna of sensors

truck starts now, I try filling up the cooling system I got water in the crank case with the oil its leaking out of the front main seal. I thinking the block or one of the heads have a crack. add water and water in the crank case.
