2009 F-150

Well yeah.

But the sad thing is if they took older F150's (73-79's pop into my head) even the new one would be embarassed.

:nono: My friend Michael tried to follow me down a dirt road in his 1978 Ford F-250Ranger with a pretty bad washboard and he spun into the ditch because how much his frame was flexing. The truck has permanant frame damage and a crunched bed corner.

Well, in test number 1-

Maybe not in that one test, but after being abused like that long enough the Front suspension on that 09 would be begging for mercy as ball joints, etc would be squeaking and creaking and eventually breaking, he 73-79's king pins would be holding steady and true. The plastic dashes and the like in the interior of the new truck also have alot more potential of rattling loose, big bolts and welds on the interior of the 73-79 hold togther better.

2nd test....
Ok, here the new truck might of beat the old one. The extra weight and wheelbase of the new one helped it out immensely, but i also think the old ones Somewhat stiffer springs woulda helped it out, call this one a draw.

3rd test...
Once again the new F150s yuppiefied springs in the back woulda hurt it with a load, granted it did hold up pretty decent under almost 1000lbs, but once again so would an old one, the twin i beam front would of kept the front wheels on the ground better too, and with an actual 8ft bed on the old one you could of centered the weight right behind the cab and spread it out over both axles. This one goes to the old one.

4th test, fuel mileage....

There is such large gaps in this one to call. The new F150's mileae stays pretty constant across the board, the old one, well, it depends alot on the gearing and engine. Obvisouly a 300 with 2.96 gears and a 3sp will do awesome, but a 400 with 4.10's and a C6 will suck fuel like theres no tomorrow.

No winner in fuel.

No, it had nothing to do with frame flex, it was because the stiffer springs were throwing the truck around more.

Thats odd, the stiff, wide springs are the reason why the 09 F-150 did so well on the test. his truck was twisted at the frame. The bed in the back is still 6 full inches lower on the left side than the right because of the twisted frame.

I knew there was a reason why I liked Fords better. They actually abuse test their trucks. And in the end, the consumer gets a truck that lasts longer. Look at us (TRS), some of us have Rangers with over 200K+ miles, 20years old, and still going.

As for the new Dodge Ram with coil link rear suspension, you would think their was a reason why the coils weren't used. Shocks with much greater stiffen rebound will help.

BTW, I'm pretty sure that after 30 years the springs are not stiffer than the 09.

No, but if you were to compare a brand new 78 and a brand new 09 the 09 would get its ass whopped in about everything.

Then if you go come back 20 years later the 09 will be in the boneyard while the 78 is still cruseing around and hauling loads.

Dustin, why don't you post verifiable numbers in your comparisons? After enough years, I'd say most people here are convinced it's because you don't have any.

Back up your statements. What are the spring rates (factory) of a '78 and an '09 F-150? Things like that might give you a real case. So far, you sound like just a case of hot air.

Ignorance is bliss.

:agree:

Even thou I like the twin I-beam, theres always will be change as we move forward. Ford somewhere down the road thought IFS would be better. As they build trucks newer in design, some engineer thought they could build it better.

If you were to compare maybe a 99' F-150 to a 09' F-150, with close to match powerplants. The newer one will most likely to win most catagoreis, but maybe not all.
