I was thinking of upgrading my exhaust on my 4.0L fx4, was thinking of either getting a bolt on dual or single, or just replacing the muffler (obviously the cheaper route)

is there any pros or cons to these? and do you recommend any specific brands for any of these options!!

i would like it to sound louder and beefier then it sounds stock. but i obviously no im not going to get a deep v8 sound like my camaro

magnaflow makes bolt on kits both single and dual but they are a little spendy. really good quality kits though. Unless you do an intake and a tune you won't really see much hp change if you are looking for that. I just bought a flow 40 for 100 bucks. It's up to you and depends what your plans are for the truck.

i was gunna do an intake but was told by a bunch of people that the factory intake on the 08 fx4 is a cold air intake, so all i really have to do it replace the airbox with a cone filter and i have everything im gunna get from a CAI. im just really trying to decide if its worth doing a whole bolt on exhaust or just replacing the muffler, i plan on doing a bit of stuff like lift, bigger tires, switch to the cone K&N filter, and maybe buy a programmer, thats all for now i guess :D

I'd skip the cone filter and put in a panel filter and then do the air box mod(just search for it). If your gunna get a tuner later on, I would get a SI/SO cat back system custom made for the truck with your muffler of choice. your biggest gains from the exhaust are going to be headers into high flow cats and then a muffler of your choice and exit location of your choice. If you really don't know, just buy a muffler for now. You can always upgrade later.

:icon_hornsup:i have the 2008 ranger 4x4 sport and the intake is no cold air , get the a k&n cold air or simular one from another company, as for the exhaust the dule system from maganflow tends to bind above the rear diff if you have a factory recever instaled as for the single system i curently have it instaled on my truck and its not bad fit and finish is sweet but it dident realy make a huge difference till i instaled the cold air.
the set up i whent with seems to work awsome! k&N cold air,JBA cat forward headers, magnaflow single exit cat back, msd wires and E3 plugs. i do know that set up makes some dam good power and isent tooo bad on the pocket book

yea i think for now im just going to pick up a different muffler to replace mine now, then later on actually repipe the whole exhaust with duals, when im ready to do the headers also...the CAI i was also thinking about doing pretty soon, and as for plugs and wires, definately going to be doing that on my next tune up!

thanks for your help!

btw im from ontario too, hamilton!

well if your in the area we do a fue runs on the long weekends in eather sudbury or in an ares between timmins and sudbury, usualy consists of about 10 -15 trucks and we wheel in camp at a lake for a day and wheel out usaly a good time.:headbang:

So you want to remove some pesky restictions on the intake side of your engine, but the idea of taking a hacksaw to your truck doesn't do it for you? Follow along with these fool-proof instructions!

Warning: No harm can come from this Mod. Some dealerships will try to fault any mod as a reason to deny warranty service, but this mod is not only hard to spot, but its completely reversible if you have second thoughts.
Brian Wowak accepts no responsibility if you hurt yourself or damage your vehicle or other property by following these instructions. Mod at your own risk.

Tools Required:
-WD40
-Your hands

Start by following the instructions in your owners manual to remove the air filter. Picture one picks up from there:

It will take a good bit of tugging to break this loose the first time. Make sure it doesn't catch on any hoses or wires in the area.

It will take some wiggling around to get the bottom tabs to engage their holes. Again be sure not to catch any hoses or wires underneath the box as you push it back in!

So what's the end reault of doing the air box mod?

Does it alter the sound?

I've done it. I didn't notice a sound difference, the skinny pedal seemed to get a little peppier, but not really noticeable. I think it made a bigger small difference on the highway.

yea i have read that, i think i started a thread about it, and i believe people were saying that it lets lots of mud and stuff into your airbox?
