I am just about convinced that my thermostat is stuck open. It is running a lot cooler (according to the gauge) than in the past. Going up a long hill the temp comes up to almost where it used to run, coasting down the same hill the temp drops way down (didn't used to do that).

So I am going to replace the thermostat and I want to know if I have to remove the throttle body to get the room the get thermostat out. It looks like I have only an inch between the top to the housing and the bottom of the TB.

I don't want to tear it apart and not have the stuff I need to put it back together. :dunno:

Thanks, Ed

The throttle doesn't have to be removed, but it makes it easier. The gasket is a reusable rubber ring style, so that shouldn't need replaced if you do it that way.

FWIW the thermostats are a common issue on that engine. I usually do three or four between November and March.

Adsm08, do you mean the TB gasket?

Man, Ford is really proud of their thermostats and they don't even come with a new gasket. You get to pay extra for that.

But, the thermostat and new gasket fixed it. It wasn't stuck open. I guess it just opened really early. Everything is now nice and toasty.
