So I recently picked up a 2007 ranger. 2.3 5 speed. I’ve been going over the truck. And I’ve discovered I’m getting a P1633 code “keep power alive voltage too low”. The pcm is seeing 14v at idle. I don’t have any blown fuses. All grounds are cleaned. Battery terminals and cables are replaced. Only thing I’ve noticed is the alternator doesn’t start to charge, unless you bring the rpm’s up a little. Then the regulator kicks in. I also notice the truck feels down on power.

thoughts on where I should be looking next?

If you are running it everyday,I would clear the code and see if it comes back. If you are letting the truck sit around a lot, then that along with a poorly charged battery may be the problem.

I am driving the truck everyday. When I clear the code. It instantly comes back. Also the battery was just replaced. However, it is a cheap autozone battery that the previous owner was nice enough to install for me

Here is a little blurb on that code. They say if you are confident with the wiring to the PCM, then the PCM may be the problem.

So I did some digging. The fuse was good. And had 12v going to it. I checked the connections at the fuse box. Everything looked fine. So after some digging. I found pin 45 gray/red stripe is the power wire, from the keep power alive circuit, going into the pcm. Checked it. No power. So I ran a new wire back to the fuse box. No more light.
