From what i read there are differences tween the years such as intakes and lack of distributor. If i use all the 2007 wiring and computer will it plug into the '91 truck? Is it easier to use the '91 dist or use what the '07 does? The engine and trans should just bolt into place, right? Both trucks are 2 wheel drive, ext cab, short box models. Sorry for all the questions, just don't want to buy the 2007 and run into a wall if it is not practical to put in the '91. Thanks for any help!

IIRC, all rangers after a certain year switched to the 5 speed auto, so the computer from your 07 might try looking for an OD that isn't there. Also, later rangers take their speedo reading from the rear ABS sensor so that could be an issue as well. If you're going to use the 07 computer, youll probably have to stick with the coilpacks, especially if you have a flex fuel since the timing will vary for the alcohol content.

In the "History of the ford ranger" article on this site, it mentions the change to electronic transmission in 1994, so that could be a concern. Dig around the site some more, I'm sure I'm forgetting some things.

if you need an engine...i dont see any problem of doing a little bit of work and swap over the intake and electrics from the 91 and put them on the 07 engine

I just skimmed the "3.0 Rebuild" section and think stegoman is right... as long as the heads and stuff are left alone you'll be OK, but I don't know if the cam synchro for a distrubutorless system is significantly different from the rotor shaft your 91 has. There are several blocks, and depending if your 3.0 is MAF (I'm assuming it is, I've never seen a 3.0 that wasn't) you should be able to get away with that too. People mention that the newer intakes are more efficient, but i don't know if youll need the old TPS and IAC or the new one for your 1991 harness. Also, the 1991 will likely be OBD I and the 2007 OBD II. Good Luck.

just swap in the 07 dash and stuff and voila "new" truck for a third of the cost of a new truck

to much work...i think the guy should just was his dizzy and intake over with the wiring and call it good....basically tare it down to the long block and put the stuff from the 91 on the 07...cheeper and WAY easier
