Recently had to replace a burnt out dash cluster lamp on our 2006 Ford Ranger. After removing the cluster I found that the lamps that I had purchased were to big. I believe these bulbs were for earlier years.

Had quite a time finding the correct bulbs, found almost no useful info on the net or at after market suppliers. Ford had the bulbs @$25. Eventually ordered #286 bulbs on eBay from someone in the UK.

These bulbs turned out to be correct. I just purchased the bulbs not the plastic holders. Bought 10 bulbs, good thing as I ended up replacing 5.

To remove the cluster:
Disconnect Battery
1: remove plastic panel below dash, the one the hood latch is on
2: remove the tin shield under #1
3: Dash cluster cover - remove 3 bolts above cluster and two on bottom edge
4: Remove two bolts just under the radio
5: gently pry the radio out about two inches
6: gently work the cluster dash cover forward off of it's clips, tilting the top out and up, you will have to bend it a bit. Swing it down to the left by the door.
7: Remove four bolts holding in the cluster
8: Ease the cluster out, tilt top out and up
9: reach in behind remove left harness first and the cluster will come out a bit more so that you can remove the right harness.

Yep,,that bulb in my 2006 XL is a T 1.5 Dia.(.187n Dia).. the NAPA # IS 17037-N, the chain parts stores don't understand the size

good info on the bulb numbers. they sound like the same size my old bmws used in the hvac lights for the knobs and the rocker switches for the windows.
