Everything went in just fine. The axle actually ended up being the wrong part, after all. It was from a different vehicle altogether (maybe F150?) It didn't have the threaded part that the hub nut threads onto on the outboard side of the knuckle. So, it necessitated an emergency trip back to the wrecker's to get the right part. We made it there with 5 minutes to spare. But once we got the right CV axle, it just slipped right in. Also, in the process of removing the driver side outboard tie-rod from the knuckle, I buggered up the threads and had to cut it off and replace it with a new one. It was one of the parts that needed replacement though, so I'm perfectly okay with that.
I also replaced the front driveshaft U-joint, so that's done.
Anyways, the horrible clicking that I had from the old CV axle is gone, and my truck doesn't vibrate above 80km/h anymore (courtesy of the new U-joint). I can also use 4wd without any crazy noises or vibration. My truck drives like new, and it seems like I'm ready for winter now. So, thanks. Couldn't have done it without this site and the advice that I got.
I did the job in my Dad's garage, and after we were done, the wife and kids came over, and we had Mom's homemade lasagna, so it was the perfect end to a perfect day wrenching on my truck with my Dad. Yay!
