Hey,

I was considering swapping out my 4.0L V6 for a late model 4.6L V8, but i cannot find anyone that has performed this online. My ranger is a 2005, XLT with the FX4 package, 4x4, 4.10 gears, auto, all the bells and whistles. Is it possible? Is it worth the time and effort? This is pre-pre-planning stage hehe.

Thanks

It can definitely be worth it. If you can get a entire vehicle. It will make things easier in the long run. If you do a 96-98 Expo swap, it is pretty much plug n play. I had the engine out and pretty close to done in 2 days. My build thread is in my signature.

Welcome to the site.

The 4.6 is about the same size as a big block motor. Major fabrication work would be in order and unless the 4.6 is a Cobra or Lincoln motor has less potential for more horsepower and torque than a 5.0.
