i have a 2005 ford ranger edge 4x4 automatic with a little less than 106000 miles all original
have recently developed a bad squeak during idle in the engine bay like a bearing going bad, have replaced the idler and tensioner pulleys anlong with the belt, doesn't change with the a/c on or off and doesn't do it with the belt off and the engine running, standing at the front of the truck noise seems to be coming from both sides, have used a stethoscope and still can't pinpoint it, any ideas or other ways to check would be appreciated also no change with everything on like the lights on high and the heater on high

These are known to make these squeaky rise from the camshaft synchronizer.

If it locks up... you will loose oil pressure.

thanks for the reply i just saw a post about the camshaft synchronizer im going to check it out next
are they hard to replace?

depends on how flexible you are, kind of requires you to almost lay on top of the engine.
a big wire harness is in the way.
10mm bolt.
the cap screws are something like 5.5mm or 7/32", I think.

you can take the cap off and drop some oil on the bushing to test for the squeak. but definitely remove the unit to inspect the drive gear.
