Howdy y'all!

I found a wrecked 2005 ranger 4x4 and was wondering if I could swap its rear axle into my 1987 at all. I'll be doing a 302 conversion with a t5 and keeping it 2wd. If it is at all possible, what is the gear ratio/is there traction lock and is the drive shaft from the '05 compatible?

Thanks in advance!

Dont, its a 28 spline 8.8, if i were u id get a 31 spline 8.8 out of an explorer, the xpos almost always have 3.73s and a L/S

Son you have a lot to learn.

You want to know what gear ratio is in this axle? Well it could be a 4.10, 3.45, 3.55, 3.73, it all depends on the gears in the axle.

You want to know if it has limited slip. The biggest determining factor is if it has limited slip or not.

It is beyond me how people asking questions over the internet continually thing we can look at a post that give zero information about the specific vehicle in question and tell them what options it had.

Anyway, your drive shaft is gonna have issues with that axle, and you will probably need a new shaft anyway for a 302 swap.

All that aside, don't use another Ranger 8.8, unless you can find the rare 31-spline from an FX4 L2. The 28 spline 8.8 isn't any stronger than the 7.5 you have now.
