I'm looking for an answer to win a bet. My friend says if I cut off my exhaust pipe behind the muffler say halfway back, I will get a louder sound and better gas mileage. I say no to both items. He further states that if I drill a hole in my muffler it will get louder. I told him by doing that I would fail emissions. Is this true? This bet isn't for money but it is for a complete steak dinner with all the fixin's at a restuarant of the winners choice. Help me win this bet, I'm hungry!!!!

if you cut pipe off after the muffler it wont make much of a difference. cutting a hole in the muffler however will make it louder depending on the size of the hole. both should not affect emissions

Your muffler already has a drain hole. Don`t know if you have safety inspections, but if you do, it won`t pass inspection with a hole drilled in the muffler.

Or if the pipe doesn't exit at the rear or side of the vehicle. Good way to get carbon monoxide poisoning if you sit with it running in one place very long. :icon_twisted:
