I have looked at numerous forums and havent found much info other than alot of people asking the same question as I am. And with that searching I haven't found a solid answer for any of these questions.

So my question is what exactly is needed to get this done. Let me start by saing I have 2005 XLT 4x2 with 5speed trans. I started the idea of a swap a few months ago, took out the 3.0 and trans and sold them. So as of now I have no engine or trans.

When doing the 4.0 swap, I know I need to swap the ECU,engine harness and trans along with some other accessories like the condenser and powerstering. And I am also going to have to find a way to mount those into my truck just how the factory did it. So aside from buying an engine, ecu, trans, and other small parts, will I need to swap out any other electrical systems as well in order to get it to run properly. Or will the engine harness plug right into the fuse box/dash harness no problem and run well as long as I switch the other parts mentioned above.

Or should I just stay with what I had and find another 3.0 to put back in?

I am really in a mess right now with this, and I have so much invested in my truck I really just want to drive it again.

You need so many 4.0 parts, that it's way easier to just find a wrecked truck with a 4.0 somewhere, and then swap all of the parts that you need. Trying to track down all of the components separatley would take a lot fo time, and probably end up costing more.
It's probably cheaper and easier to just put another 3.0 back in, but the 4.0 swap has been done before, just depends what you want. Honestly, if I were going to swap an entire powertrain into my truck, I'd be looking for something stronger than the 4.0, but that's just me.
