I just bought a 2004 Ranger.... it has the aluminum wheels and all..... I don't really care for them in the least, so My idea was to take low profile tires and wrap them on the 16in rims, put them on my 1997 2wd step side.
will the backspacing work and all?

Then I'm going to find some black and chrome wheels for my new ranger, haven't decided how large of rims to go with yet, prolly just 16's for cost of tires, lift it up 3in BL and do 33x12's I'm thinking should fit with a level on front.

but mainly I'm just asking about the new rims on the old truck, haven't found any photos of this occurrence yet.

I can't imagine there would be any problems. Stock wheels have a 3.75" backspacing. I would imagine the 16s have that. If you want to measure, take a wheel off and measure on the back of the rim where the studs go through and measure to the inside lip of the rim. That is your backspacing.

For the new wheels, I'd go with 15's of some sort. There are so many more tires available for 15's and they are much cheaper. Where I live, 33 x 12.5 for 15" wheel is the most common truck tire next to 31 x 10.5. If you are doin 12.5 width, your truck would look sick with 15 x 10 wheels with a 3.75 backspacind. That should add 3 inches to the outside of your current wheels (on both sides, 6 inches total).

Just my 2 cents. Good Luck!

I agree with Wiz, I would go with 15's for the price and tire sizes are more abundant. If I had the money I would get 15's and bigger tires but I just bought bigger tires for my 16's.

As my buddy Tom, so lovingly pointed out this morning..... uhh hey man, lets lift your truck and level it and you just run the hell out of your tires for now, because they only have 1,500 miles on them.

So I guess that's the route I will take, I was just all excited about my new truck and getting her off the ground....

So I'm going to wrap my 97's wheels in 85k mile pirellis and just let my 2004 ride for now....

But i did just get a %25 raise after my old boss begged me to come back..... so gimme a few weeks and I may get froggy and say piss on saving money lets have some fun!!!! then I'll just have to roast off these brand new tires and darn the bad luck..... get new wheels and tires.
