2004 Hyundai Accent ignition switch?

Had a problem turning the key to off position and also from the off position to start. Jiggling worked up until a couple days ago. New part from dealer is $300. Used part is $125. Can't afford either... Asked at locksmith about pulling pins. They suggested using large screwdriver and breaking pins....so I did...oops.
Now the tumbler is jambed. Tried air, no go. Removed whole unit from steering column. Found out I could have pulled electrical from back of lock cylinder and used screwdriver....doh. So after some hammering I got the key back in the tumbler and the steering lock jimmied open.
So now the engine won't turn over....it will do 1/4 turn and stop. Almost like a dead battery.
Put the charger on, no difference.
Pulled the plugs thinking some kind of hydro lock. No difference.
There is a 2 wire cable with a plunger that bolts to the lock cylinder. Thought that may be some kind of theft deterrent but it makes no difference for starting if it depressed or not.
Hoping someone has a suggestion or two. Even with the new lower gas prices my dodge 1500 is a gas hog. I need this beater back on the road.

Above my pay grade... I don't know korean cars. My only guess is that there is something similar to a ford PATS system and you may have damaged or disconnected the transceiver on the ignition switch/column or during your wrestling with it somehow got it stuck in lockout mode.

Sounds dumb but have you tried unplugging and plugging it back in again lol. (Disconnect the battery for 20 minutes and then reconnect it) this usually resets any security system.

I found the problem. I was turning the rotary switch too far. As long as I stop turning as soon as the starter is engaged it fires right up.
