I got an 03 Ranger Edge 4.0 4x4 last may and I'm looking to lift it and run some bigger tires. I was fairly certain I'd get a suspension lift (despite the $$$). I called a place to see if they would install the only suspension kit i was able to find (4" Superlift) and they said they wouldn't put any sort of lifts on newer rangers like mine because the center of gravity would be too high and the same was true for body lifts. Anybody know if the change in COG would really be that bad?

Also, i've been rethinking a suspension lift and going for a body lift because, to be honest, i'm not that hardcore. I go offroading about once a month, if that. What do you guys think?

i would just try to stuff bigger tires under your truck. i wouldnt spend the money on a suspension lift until you really got into wheeling it, and i personally dont care for body lifts? i would crank your t bars a bit and maybee do the add a leafs in back. there have been some users that have put 33's on with this combo

For a once a month wheeler a body lift would be the best way to go. As for center of gravity being affected by a body lift. Its minimal considering only the body is lifted and the engine, frame, and tranny are all sitting at the same height they were before. If you want more lift beyond the body lift, add-a-leafs or shackle extensions would be an option for lifting the back and cranking the torsion bars would be a way to lift the front.

i've already cranked the torsion bars to remove the rake and got about 2 inches out of 'em, so would i have to get new torsion bars if i wanted to go any higher on the front? and would that stiffen the ride too?

i've already got 32" tires on it, so i'd want to go a little bigger than 33's. i want a meaner look for the truck, so along with a taller tire should i opt for a wider tire? right now they're 265/75R16. based on my research, wider tires would also mean i'd have to get new wheels too, as i've got stock right now.

so, to get a bigger, meaner truck like i want i'm thinking i should get a body lift, bigger and wider tires, and new wheels. does that sound reasonable?

Don't forget larger tire means reduced performance in day to day driving.

Effectively the finally gear ratio changes and makes the engine work harder.

Re-Gearing is a whole new ball game.

Be careful turning the Tbars. I got 3 inches out of mine and it was a rough ride not to mention i went through tires like nothing b/c of the alignment issues. I put a 4 inch superlift on and it made a world of difference...well worth the money in my opinion. As for the body lift some say they are hard on the truck but personally im all for them and my next plan is to put one on.
For 33's good gears are 3.73's or 4.10's i wud go with the 4.10's..
