Need some help or advice. Have 2003 Ranger with 3.0L vulcan v6. A month or so ago the engine started missing and threw out codes of misfiring. Well I changed the plugs and plug wires and the misfiring seems to be gone.

However there is a crazy thing that happens when I get going in the afternoon and get on a freeway. When I get up to speed and then back off the accelerator even slightly, the truck feels like it is going to stall. It only seems to happen in this hot weather, at 60-70mph and the truck just warmed up to normal temp. After a couple of minutes it seems to go away. The truck runs somewhat smooth and has power like it should have, but why the weird deacceleration? (The A/C is on full blast during this time, I was going to try it without the A/C on and see if this is a contributing factor.

Could I have messed up one of the other sensors when the plugs and wires where causing the misfiring? I have a fuel filter on order and was going to try that first. No codes or SEL lit.:icon_bounceblue:

When I changed the plugs & wires, it was OK but later on I had to install a new coil pack (it was cracked), performance improved-

I am tempted to do that. I did drive the truck with the A/C off after work on one of these scorching days and simulated the deacceleration, and the problem seemed to not be there. I am still not sold on the problem being the engine under a heavy load with the A/C.

Like I said, I will probably get a new coil pak and try that next. In the meantime I have a fuel filter on order and will install that too.:icon_cheers:
