2003 ford ranger fx4 lvl2?

The '03 4.0l will be the SOHC , not the older OHV(ended in 2000).

The SOHC does have issues with timing chains and guides wearing out, pretty much have to pull the motor to replace them, there are 2 in the back of the engine.

Not much can go wrong with a 5-speed, clutch is about it.

Ever owned a Black vehicle before??

Nothing looks nicer than a clean and shiny Black vehicle.....................
Nothing gets dirtier faster than a Black vehicle, lol.

Be wary of timing chain/guide issues. Seems priced to god to be true. Make sure to check for frame rust, esp in WI.

:icon_confused: That's not an aftermarket hood... :dunno:

Wisconsin, they salt the roads up there in the winter right? Check out the leaf spring hangars and shackles. They have a habit of rusting out on Rangers, especially in states that salt the roads. Wouldn't necessarily stop me from buying the truck as its not that bad of a fix, but if they look rough it could be a negotiating point.

Timing chains or clutch are the biggest mechanical issues I think I'd be looking for. I suspect that he's worried about maintenance it's soon to need and is trying to offload it before it gets there. I was tempted to do that with my 99, slap head gaskets on it and let it be someone else's problem. I've decided to fix it and keep it though (just waiting on parts and money).

They may have put an aftermarket OEM style hood on after the third engine fire finally melted through the original one. :icon_idea:

Check the title, it may be a salvage. This day in age a Carfax wouldn't be a bad idea either.

For an 11 year old compact truck with that milage the price probably isn't that far out of line. I don't know why anyone would pay $8k for an 11 year old compact truck with 170k no matter how pretty the shifters are.

You may be onto something there!
