i have a 2003 edge 2wd. and a 2000 exploder 5.0 awd. everything that guys guys has said and done with your conversions is totally awesome! i would like some help in the way im planing on doing my conversion. i want to used a c4 2wd auto instead of the 4rw70. is there a way to reprogram the stock 2000 exp computer to eliminate the automatic trans functions so it don't set codes and run the engine the right way? thanks for all who can help.

Yes there is, but honestly, why would you want to :icon_confused: Th 4R70W is stronger, has a better ratio first gear, and it has overdrive...

thats true the reason is im lowering and tubbing it out. the c4 that i have is fully built with a trans brake. the idea is for a nice looking street/drag race truck

I understand you have a trans already thats built, but unless it will be a sunday driver thats driven to the track and back, then parked (IE you have another vehicle for DD duty), you will get very poor fuel mileage not to mention be running high rpm's on the highway...If you have any length of distance you will be driving frequently, I'd seriously reconsider the 4R70W route...Besides, unless you build that motor to 350+hp, the 4R70W in stock form can handle that...
In either case, get you a tuner like SCT so you can delete the trans from the computer, as well as tune the ECU for your upgrades...

thanks i do have a dd. i do plan on pumping the motor up since its a 5.0 the parts are very easy to get and im sure that i can find a tuner person in town to help with the tuning on my friends dyno. bye the way can the sct tuner eliminate the pats system as well?

Yeah, the PATS can be deleted, as can the trans. With SCT you can email em the upgrades you have, they will write a special tune and email it to you, you can then download it to the tuner via USB cable then upload it to your ECU...I have one, and its awesome, I love my tuner...

well thats awesome ill call them first thing monday and get all the details. i want to make the computer run perfect in the donor exp. before i rip that motor out to swap it. thanks for your help svt.!

bye the way is the tri-y exhaust that is mention in the v8 conversions in theses forums, the stock exhaust manifolds from a 2000 type explorer v8? i know the older mountianeers have a metal tubular(not a header a piece of crap) manifold. the explorer that i have seem to be cast.

No, the tri-y we referenece is for 289-302 in a '65-'70 Mustang.

o cool thanks. if i relocate the steering shaft over, do you think ill be able to get some long tube headers in there?

Not sure if these will fit but Torque Monster's are pretty nice. That is what I am using on my swap but I am using a 96 motor not a 2000. They cost a few cents and if you have the time to wait, they are definitely worth the money.

I'ts been done but also required raising the motor almost 2" and taller trans mount likewise.

looks good. im thinking i might be able to move the steering shaft a little farther to the front and left on the shock tower to maybe get that clearance needed to keep the front part of the header tucked in away from the steering shaft. i really don't want to raise this engine up. anybody know of a brand name header that fits close to the block?

People been looking for over eleven years for a set of headers that leave the motor in proper position. Comes down to either of the Explorer manifolds, long discontinured FRPP ones or the expensive Torque Monster headers. Just remembered that some one was able to use the log style exhaust off an early Comet or some small similar car. Didn't save the picture.
