I got a 2002 ranger from my grandpa a few months ago and just yesterday i reached 27,000 miles. however, consistently for the last 5 or so fill ups on gas, i have been getting 15mpg. plugs and wires are new, air pressure in the tires are fine, air filter is clean, and i even put in a can of sea foam with this last tank and no change in mpg.

Im out of ideas on what it could be..anyone else had this problem? Is it major? What can i check or rebuild?

Thanks

15mpg is not that uncommon for a 3.0. Especially when you consider you have a heavy extended cab with an auto trans (not an ideal combination for mpg's). Do you know what you gear ratio is? Is the truck 2wd or 4wd?

Need to know if you're doing city or highway driving as well. Official government numbers are (City/Highway/Average):

4x2: 15/20/17
4x2 E85: 11/15/13
4x4: 14/17/16

Sounds like you're right in that neighborhood.

Auto's seem to be a big factor with the 3.0. They average 3-5mpg less than the 5spd.
