I have 2002 Ranger. No matter where I put the vent knob, all hot and cold air blow out of the defrost vents. What is the problem?

vent issues, eh

your blendoor isn't being operated properly. First thing to understand is that the climate control ( temp and vent settings anyway) system is operated by vacuum hoses. Check all of vacuum connectors and hoses first for leaks. If the temp selector is working, that would at least suggest the vacuum source is functioning. another possibility is that some debris is lodged in the blendoor, keeping it from moving. happy hunting.

On a 2002 the blend door is operated by an electric motor at the bottom of the heater box. Not vacuum. You either have a broken door or a bad motor.

Isn't the blend door (for mixing in heat and A/C for temp) different than the vent system that directs the air to the vents? I'm thinking he still has vacuum operated vents. My '02 certainly has the vacuum "egg" reservior installed on the passenger side.

If the vacuum goes poo-poo most likely it has defaulted over to defrost. A hand-held vacuum pump will be instrumental in tracing the problem. There is also a one-way valve that screws up in line (under the hood) that is the most likely suspect.
