Im new here been searching around looking at sas. I currently have an 02 ranger with 4" superlift and 3 " body with 35's. Im wanting to put a straight axel under the front of it now any advice what setup to run? I dont offroad it merely just a show truck Thanks for any help Chris.

If its just a show truck a fancy blinged out 4-link with king coilovers would do the trick. Or cheap way is leaf springs.

Do you want fullsize or not?

Wanna sell the superlift kit? I'll buy it.

I want to keep it the same width it is if I can. I'm just looking for the simplest way really what do you think? I want to run 40's. I haven't totally committed to doing the sas still in the planning stages, I have a guy wanting it already if he backs out I will have it for sale.

No offense but from your questions you dont sound like you have the skill to do a SAS yourself

That's why I have help Just looking for opinions on what would be better.

i hate "show trucks" i know a guy at work who has an old gmc with over 9 inches of lift, 35 inch mudders and a 305 and he wont go near the mud. i call him a pussy and told him to go buy a 2wd if ur scared of the mud. he says he doesnt want to "warsh it" what a douche! its nice to have a nice lookin truck that ur proud of but have some fun in it and ride it like its supposed to be rode! its basically a waste of money. he drives it as a daily driver gettin shitty gas mileage. what a waste. it reminds me of old people going 45 in a 55 while drivin a mustang. hahaha. just wanted to vent lol

EB Dana 44 front and 9" rear with leaf springs will fit your bill. Straight forward and simple swap.

40's would do well seein's how its a show truck. If its something you want to do, dont let everyone put down your ideas. Just do it and be proud of your truck. People are quick to judge nowadays.

And do the swap yourself. You'll never learn if you dont. Research, research, and yes more research. When you feel confident, go do it!!!

The main issues with an SAS on a late-model are 1) springs, because it doesn't have any, so you'll need to fab up some coil buckets, track bar and control arm mounts, or leaf spring mounts and 2) steering because it comes with a rack and pinion. It's been done and it's not impossible, so good luck.

An early Bronco D44 is the right width but only 76-77 models have disc brakes and they're pricey as hell when you find them. Pre-73 models (I think) had D30 axles, so not every early Bronco front is a D44.

A Jeep Cherokee D30 is about the right width and the diff is on the correct side but I don't know that I'd trust that with 40's even on a street-only truck.

Otherwise you're calling Currie Enterprises for a custom built D44 and spending around $3k for the just the axle.

So really it would would be easier to go full width front and rear?

I don't think it would be any less work, just that you could more easily find a front axle that will handle 40's. Then you have that pesky problem of covering the tires if they're not allowed to stick out past the fenders in your state. I'm thinking a set of Bushwhacker flares ain't gonna cover 40x14.50's on full-width axles in a Ranger. :icon_twisted:
Be a crapload of fab work and money either way.

A few years ago a former member managed to graft a Ranger body onto a full-size Bronco frame. Frankly I didn't think it looked that good because of the crapload of frame hanging out.

Anything can be done on a budget. There's just a few things I wouldn't want to cheap out on, Lets say for example suspension? Steering Maybe? Lol

You could be like me and run divorced chevy 205 case with 14bolt rear and 60 front. Yeah so what its chevy, gets the job done. You dont have to have ford, It'll all work with some fabwork.

First you gotta decide what you want and stick with it.

My advice, stay double lifted with 35s or sell it and get a 3/4 ton or one ton that you can buy a lift kit for. After a soild axle swap that you pay to have someone do you will have more in it than buying a used powerstroke and throwin an 8 inch lift with 40s on it. Ive prolly got 4-5 grand rapped up in mine and its not even that pretty, but I did all the work and its functional.

slap a D30 in it, and leave the "good" axles for the rest of the people who will actually use them.
