I have the electric transfer case, automatic transmission.
it's not working correctly, and while I am preparing a work area for the repair I'm thinking I would love to reduce the complexity.
So, I am considering conversion to manual shift transfer case.
I suppose IF I could find a Manual transfer case in one the wrecking yards with the lever it would not be a huge job.
But, there always seems to be a glitch in such things.
Maybe there is a better way, that I can afford.

searching the forums I'm not finding anything exactly on point.

I got a spare for my conversion for like $95 shipped off car-part, but no shifter and no floor plate. Hypothetically you can fab both, but not having the floor plate sealed properly has always been super noisy for a daily, and I hate it.

The only way you're gonna get that shit at this point, outside of a u-pull-it or an angel descending from heaven, is to buy an entire donor truck with a bunch of parts you want for cheap because there's something major wrong with it and haul it home. I've also paid the seller of such a truck extra to haul it across the county for me. I'm not sure how high of a redneck factor you're interested in, though.

I'm in Mexico so availability is different... that question is unanswered at the moment.

But, it seems you have done this... was it just as simple as dropping the shafts, R&R, and then replace the shafts? (hole in the floor for the stick and boot is assumed)

as in "It just works"?

Being that you are in Mexico, the information we have might not be helpful to you.

One thing to look for is the threaded holes on the transmission in order to be able to do the conversion. If they aren't there, you are probably looking at a transmission swap. If you can, compare a truck with a manaul case to yours before you spend any money.

The reason I point this out is that later models of the North American Rangers no longer have the needed holes to mount the bracket and linkage for the manual shift.

It was originally sold in the USA, then imported. So it's an American version.
Thanks for the heads up.

It is not the transmission that needs to be changed, it is the extension housing that has the mounting holes for the shifter linkage. If you find a transmission with the correct extension housing that is good. That is probably easier to do than finding the correct extension housing by itself.

There is a way to modify the electronic shift extension housing to be able to mount the linkage. There is an article in the TRS Tech Library that gives a not so detailed way to do it. Then you have to find the shifter linkage and manual transfer case. The best bet for a newer setup is the 2002 FX4 or the 2003 FX4 Levell II with the manual transmission. There were not a lot of them made but as they get older it may be easier to find one in a salvage yard. Probably not a good source on Mexico.
