MY ford ranger w/over 200k miles began having problems going into reverse but other gears worked fine. In an attempt to fix the reverse issue i changed the trans filter and refilled.

Now ranger will not go into any gear. Any suggestions.

check your shift linkage hopefully its that and not ya know what mine did... wouldnt go into reverse than about 10 miles down the road kablewy!!!

I assume the linkage was not disturbed when fluid and filter were changed. I would first double check level of fluid to insure pump is not sucking air. If level is OK, is it possible that the filter O-Ring did not seal properly? If not, then again, I think the pump would pull air. Just a thought.

Linkage seems good. Fluid level cold and hot seems good also. Still no forward or reverse.

When I changed the filter about 3 qts of fluid came out of the pan. After the filter change i refilled with 3 qts mercon V but the dipstick level was extremely high ater I refilled. This is when the issue seemed to start. I siphened off enough to get the fluid to the current level but still no forward or reverse.
