I am installing aftermarket fog lights in my moms 2002 jetta tomorrow and I am wondering what's the best way to wire them up. I was thinking using power from the head lights, that way she doesn't have to worry about a switch and turning it off when she gets out. what's the easiest way to do this?

I would use the 12V from the headlights to energize a small relay. The relay can power the driving lights with fused power from the battery. The relay would only draw a tiny amount of power and would not effect the headlight circuit. It would require no wiring or switches to go through the firewall and would be fairly simple to get working.

use a bosch style relay , pin 30 to the battery with a 30 amp fuse , pin 87 goes to the lights , pin 86 goes to the low beam wire of the head light , pin 85 goes to ground .
this configuration the fog lights will only turn on when the headlights are on , and turn off when you go to high beam . this is the legal way to hook up your fog lights .
