I need to remove my altenator.I believe I located the belt tensioner.Does it take an allen socket to adjust it?What's the torque value?Any help is appreciated.----------Brian
no most you can remove tension by using a ratchet or breaker bar(ratchet without ratchet feature) then just rotate it whichever way it is untill u lose belt tension
Thanks for the response.I just bought a star socket kit.I believe this will loosten it.Then when I tighten it back up I will use a pry bar to set it close to the tension that it had, then tighten it securely without breaking it.Do you know the torque value?
put a 15 or 13 mm wrench on the bolt that holds the pully on and i think the direction on those engines is to push CLOCKwise, which will relieve the tension, remove the belt, then let go of it. to put the belt back on do the same thing, but install the belt. these belts are auto tensioning. That torx head bolt holds the whole tensioner on, no reason to take it off.
I want to thank the people who replied.I don't know how orthodox it is,but I took the altenator off and replaced it (with a friends help & knowledge) and never touched the belt tensioner. The belt looks to be on properly & he says it is.I'm going to hook up the wires, air intake, etc.& get a jump.Wish me luck.
It's me again. Not only is my truck running properly,my check engine light stayed out for 45 min. during charging. That was a prior problem.I am ecstatic.
I forgot to inform possible viewers that my check en. light came back on the next dayI'm going to try this --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/CleanMAF.html---------------------------------as I was told
