Here is my 2001 Ranger. I purchased it used with approximately 14k miles on the truck at a price of 13k. For the good news the truck is now going to be paid off this spring. The truck currently has 78k miles and my goal is to get at least 200k before purchasing another one. Do you think rangers will last that long? I already replaced the automatic transmission.

Hell yes, Rangers last a long time. Just be sure to replace the tranny fluid every once in a while and it'll last quite a while. Oh yea, and that's a nice truck you have. :icon_thumby:

my ranger, its an 86 and it has over 350,000 miles on it, as long as your take care of it, it will last a good while

Thanks for the feedback. How many miles should I replace the automatic transmission flued? I bough the tranmission from cottman.

I have a 90' and it has 243,000 on it, just now put a head gasket on it.

At least once every 30K miles, probably more often than that.

You may want to look into a larger transmission cooler for peace of mind.

It is very unusual that your transmission failed so early. Hopefully the new one lasts longer. The one in my Explorer, which is very similar to yours (minus one speed) has had no issues in 150K aside from a sensor that got wet during off roading. The previous owner towed with it very frequently too.

What made you change the gasket? Have you had to replace the transmission?

The head gasket blew. I bought the truck from the origional owner, that I know of ( and what he said) it has never been touched.
