Is there a way to add hubs to the live axle? My dad wants the selectible hubs on his Ranger and that live axle is an issue...lol

If this helps: 2001 Ranger 4.0, 4x4, 5spd auto, offroad package and tow package.

Thanks!

Ben

I haven't heard of any kits for that, most setups like yours are all alike. SAS might be an option, or your only option...

Ive heard that you can swap in a pulse vaccum setup from a 98 or 99 ranger onto your live axle. After you swap this on there they have a kit that converts them to manual hubs. Ive got a 99 and an 01 and didnt learn about this untill after i torched the front off of my 99 to do a sas and took the ifs to the junk yard.

The pulse-vac hubs proved to be troublesome and unreliable which is why Ford got rid of them. Just leave it alone.

So no way to convert to manual hubs then?
None that I am aware of, although it keeps being rumored. Ford's own testing revealed that a live front end with the axle filled with synthetic gear lube resulted in a loss of only 0.3 mpg....yes, zero-point-three.

It just funny some act like switching to manual hub they going to gain 10 mpg more. :icon_confused::icon_rofl:

Doing that is like getting a sex change because of a case of jock itch.

I agree about the pvh being crap. When my 99 had the ifs pvh setup i modified it to bypass the vaccum and be a live front axle. I did that before they had the option of putting lock outs on it. I wasnt trying to tell chevelle kid to switch to pvh and keep it like they came stock. I was informing him that they do offer a lock out kit for pvh and you can swap in the setup from the pvh and add lockouts. Also I dont believe he said anything about switching to lockouts for gas saving reasons. The main reason I would change to lockouts is less wear and tear on components. Any time you've got something moving that dosent need to be, its wearing it out. Ive noticed this from experience in having both types.

Maybe but it's not under power if any it be very very little compared to the rear half of the drivetrain.

I don't care if I gain any mpg, I'm just scared of this set-up blowing up in the bush on me and at least if running manual hubs it's an easier fix....

Unless these are more reliable than I expect, anyone else wanna field that one?

Good to know Ford's testing showed such a small reduction in mpg with the live set-up....

How you going to blow it up? Most likely you will be 4x4 mode so manual or live axle won't make a differents. Live axle less parts that could fail don't you think.

See that's the thing, I don't know. But it sounds like you know what you're talking about so I'm not going to worry about for now.....

I just figured that I'd be better off with manual hubs but form the sounds of it maybe I'm better off withis current set-up....

Thanks for the feedback..
