2001 Ranger drops into nuetral when engine is cold

My 2001 ranger will drop into nuetral while I am drining it after a cold start in cold weather. If I shift back into park and then back to drive it will function normally, other wise it will stay in nuetral even though I am in drive til I rev the motor several times. Is this a sensor of some sort going bad?

I don't know anlot about the auto trannys, however I would suggest that you check for codes. have you checked the fluid level? has the fluid been changed at all?......it sounds like it could be the torque converter?

tranny probs

Hi this last post is pretty right. When i bought my 94 it would do that in the morning when i went to work. and i didnt know anything about transmissions and so i went to orileys they had told me that my fluid was low so what i recommend you do is. check fluid after it stays in gear. Be0cause what happens is
your torque converter uses tranny fluid to run idk how it works but it sucks a good deal up. and if its low it would be a good idea to change fluid and filter. its not hard at all just have a chilton and you'll be fine. basic steps carfully drop pan make sure you have a drip pan it gets messy haha filter should have a 1 torx
bolt to remove and it pops out install new one clean pan and magnet (there is a magnet that collects shavings if there is tiny shavings and a small amount your ok) re install pan and new gasket (comes with filter) then add i think its 4 1/2 to 5 quarts test drive and you should be in good shape!!!
