Hey Guys
Ok i have some questions like what would u do. i have a 2001 ford ranger auto V6 4.0L sohc 4x4(BW1354). It has 145,000 miles on it and the back timing chain is bad, like so bad u on run your hand around it and jump a tooth or 2. i love my ranger it is my first car i had. I have had it for 4 years now.
Now i was on craigslist just look looking for a V8 for ranger and i saw a 1999 explorer V8 AWD 222,000 miles for $700 he said run but may over heat on long drive. need to be towed and the hood will not open. So me and a buddy driving out there with a tow dolly and it would not start(battery was dead). i don't want to push it on the dolly so i said 600 he paused and said ok. i paid he than i got a pry bar and open the hood to jump it. start first try and run great really. filled it up with water and it had a very small leak from a hose. we put it on the dolly and we remember we forget the tools to remove driveshaft. so we said we driving it to a parts store or something. we ended up driving it all the way home(hour and a haft). and when to sleep because it was 1 am. wake up next morning to look at it and it was nice(a older couple owned it its hole life). it is fully load and really clean. i fix the hood and the water leak and next my dad is driving it because his trans whent out(Honda, i should have it done but tuesday)

so what would u do swap the V8 in to the ranger(like i wanted to when i buy the explorer) or sell the explorer(because its to nice to be trashed) and fix the V6.

now if i do the swap i want the disc brakes in the rear to and i dont want AWD so i uses my T case(if i hear right it bolts up to the V8 trans). i would like manual transmission but i dont know what all goes in to it. and i am not worried about wiring.

i love to your input, and what u do, and if v8 story and helpful thing please

thank you all for reading and sorry for the spelling not my bad thing about me.:icon_welder:

600 bucks is a great deal. If you want a v8 ranger nows your chance, you have almost everything you need to do the swap.I found a 2000 mountainer which is the same as an explorer for 750 wrecked bad!. I'm almost completely done with my swap, been driven it around about a week and i love it!

Do the swap, but your Tcase will NOT fit. Rbv cases are 27 Spline, the v8 trannies are 32 Spline. You can do a 205 (done that) or you can run a 4406 (going to do that). The swap is pretty straight forward, take a look at my sport trac build, its what you will be doing...

swap it

do the swap just do it

It's the wiring that will cause you the most problems. Several changes after 2000, sure someone with a later swap can help.

Btw, you bad timing chain could as easy fix as replacing the hydraulic tensioner so you can sell the motor to recoupe your v8 swap investment...

As for the wiring, you will want to get the pinout of the 42 pin plug for both your truck and the donor so you can compare to see if you will have to do any changes.
