What's going on guys! I'm looking at swapping a 5.0 into my 01 ranger. I have found a donor vehicle but unfortunately I cant take the whole vehicle because I don't have anywhere to store it and it also doesn't have a rear axle. The guy that has the vehicle is willing to work with me to get everything I need for the swap and for the most part I have everything listed to get but I'm having issues with figuring out how to go about making all the automatic stuff work in the truck. Its a single cab short bed and its 5 speed. Generally I would keep it standard but the deal I'm going to get on everything as is and my long term plans for the truck its best to just go ahead and make it automatic now. Do I need to get the explorer cluster and steering column or should I just make it a floor shift? Is there anything else I need to grab other than the obvious brake pedal from the automatic. Thanks in advance guys!

You'll need the ecu, and the entire wiring harness. The trans is computer controlled. There's a ton of other stuff but that's the main thing.

Both motor mounts.
Exhaust past the transmission mount.
Transmission shifter cable including the bracket that holds it to the transmission.
Anything steering column related for sure.
Might as well grab the cluster to save swapping the gear indicator.
PS cooler
PATS module
Cruise servo with throttle cable
Radiator, condensor, any a/c lines, air box
I'm sure there's more, that's just what's springing to mind...

So im thinking about just doing a floor shifter from lokar just because i dont really want to change the steering column, but to keep my original ranger key, do i have my current pats system programmed to the explorer ecu?

No take the Pat's module from the explorer. It's easier to program new keys than program a new module. The ecu and pats module are married and they need to be swapped together. You can program your current keys to the new ecu and Pat's module with forscan. (About 20 bucks for a connector if you have a windows laptop).

I honestly dont even think it's possible to program a different Pat's module to the ecu without spending a fortune at the dealer.
