Greetings,

I have a 2001 Ranger 2.3L w the "fake" oil pressure gauge. Pulled out the instrument cluster but was unable to locate the 20 ohm resistor.
The oil gauge is part # XL2F-10E853-A

My questions are these:

Is the resistor internal? And if so can it be located and removed/bypassed?

If the resistor cannot be removed, can it be switched for another oil pressure gauge from another model with similar connectors that is not 'fake'?

I purchased a similar gauge off ebay Part# F77F-10E865-K out of a 1997 Explorer. How can I tell if it has an internal resistor? The connectors are identical, so it appears it will plug into the 2001 Ranger cluster if it's not a 'fake' gauge.

I already have the correct sending unit, just need to figure out how to get the gauge un'faked'

I don't want to install an aftermarket gauge.

Thanks to all

No idea but I'm very curious to see how this turns out.

Welcome to the forum

1995 and up Ranger oil gauges can't be modified to use "real pressure"
1995 is when Rangers got electric speedometer and other changes, like the EEC-V OBD2 computer

You may find external resistor on some Ford clusters up to 1997, including Ranger and Explorer but not for sure on all

So you won't be able to do this to 2001 Ranger
You can add a separate gauge and a PS60 SENDER on the engine, to add a "real" oil pressure gauge
You need to use a "T" adapter so the oil switch stays working or the Check Gauge light will stay on

Are you worried about oil pressure?
The switch/gauge indicates pressure above 5psi

Not worried about oil pressure. Just wanted a more accurate reading, and to see the fluctuations w engine RPM and temperature changes.

Do you know if oil pressure gauges from other vehicles can be swapped into the cluster? It appears any 10E865 series gauge will work. I am wondering if one of the gauges in that series does not have an internal resistor ???

HFD Firefighter/Paramedic. 17 years service. Cheers brother

Certified but only a volunteer EMT for 4 years. Volunteer firefighter for 6. Never a paramedic or a professional fire fighter. I did it for fun and to be honest to get out of college classes. But in my time I feel I did enough to wear the TRS badge. But someone like you 17 years service... you deserve a salute and I'll take my emblem down if you think I don't deserve it.

I was also never military but worked for the dod for several years after I got my "welding degree" useless peice of paper.

I have alot more peices of paper than true heroes.

OK. So the oil pressure gauge out of the 1992-1996 F150 is 10E872-A
Is anyone aware if this earlier gauge has the 20ohmn resistor internal? The connections are the same as the 10E853-A Gauge in the 2001. It is a 3 pin connector configured identically.
If I can find that it is NOT internally resisted, then in theory - it should work to swap the guts of the two gauges. A circuit is a circuit , it is just reading varying resistance.

Has anyone done the 'fake' oil gauge conversion on a 1992-1996 F150?????
