Hello all,
I need some guidance. I’ve got a 2001 ranger that needs a new engine. It’s got the 3.0 in it. I found a 2004, will that block work? I’m comfortable changing the intake and oil pan, but I can’t get a definite answer in if that block will work or not. Any help is much appreciated.

Welcome:

I assume your '04 is from Ranger, in which case, it will work. 3.0 from, say Escape, is completely different engine

Replacing intake requires removing valve covers, not hard, just an extra step.

All Vulcan 3.0 long blocks are interchangeable. Nothing from a Duratec 3.0 will work, so make sure the 04 engine is a Vulcan.
The only other potential hang up would be if one of the engines was a flex fuel setup and the other isn't. In that case you'd need to use the injectors from your original engine.
