Just picked up an 01 ranger 2.3 with a bad auto. Wanna get a used trans for it. What years will interchange?

2001 2.3l will be a Duratec engine, so specific bell housing pattern needed

2001 2.3l to 2012 Ranger 5R44E automatic will work

Just so you know, Rangers had the 2.5l 4 cyl Lima engine in the first half of 2001, then got the 2.3l Duratec in the second half of 2001.
2002 and up all 4cyl Rangers had the Duratec engine

5R44E is the transmission model, whats inside the case, a 5R44E from a 3.0l engine would not fit the 2.3l Duratec engine
5R44E from a 2.5l engine would not fit the 2.3l duratec engine

It is the duratec engine.

So the years you mentioned will be plug and play?

Yes, also change the coolant hose and fitting on the back of the engine while transmission is out, hard to get to any other time and it is known to leak over time

Just a heads up, 5R55E is often listed for the 2.3l or 3.0l, it's actually a 5R44E if it came from a 2.3l or 3.0l, just typos
5R55E was only used with the 4.0l engines
