Hello,

My Ranger just relieved itself in my driveway. The coolant appears to be coming from the engine. I have attached pics.

Any diagnosis/repair help would be greatly appreciated. I cannot afford to take it to the shop and I have to keep this truck running.

I am not a mechanic or gear head but I am good with mechanical stuff and as they say necessity is the mother of all invention.

I thank you in advance for your help.

John

The 3.0ls have an elbow fitting in the front of the engine that rusts out, pictures here.

From what I have read it's a PITA to remove(unless it's broken, lol,) and a PITA to install the new one, because you have to remove alot of stuff to unscrew it.

Could be the water pump?

You pretty much have to start disassembling and check as you go, unless you can see it spraying out.

Ron D,

Thanks, I will look at it again when I get home from work. I was thinking water pump also and somebody told me head gasket as well. I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my post.

Regards,
John

Head gaskets don't usually leak externally, they tend to leak into the cooling system first and then force coolant into the oil pan.
Check dip stick for higher level and brown "milkshake" type consistency.

Intake manifold gaskets can leak coolant externally, they have crossover passages for coolant flowing between the heads.

Ron,

Thanks again... someone told me could be water pump gasket as well? I changed the oil right before this happened and there was no coolant in the old oil. I'll check again.

v/r,
John

As it turns out it was the Water Pump. Finished replacing it this weekend and all is fine. Thanks for the help Ron.

Thanks for the update :icon_thumby:
