My credo
If it ain't broke, I can't fix it.
I was under the impression that the 99 Explorer 5.0L to 00 Ranger 3.0L was pretty much plug and play as far as wiring goes. Much to my dismay, this is far from true. When I turned the key a couple of weeks ago and found that I had no fuel pump prime, I suspected there would be a problem.

What I found is that of the 3 bulkhead connectors on the driver side firewall, all 3 are loaded with wires on the Explorer, but only 2 connectors are loaded on the Ranger (see pics below). On top of that, I found that almost none of the color coding matches between like positions from Explorer to Ranger, so I need schematics if I hope to ever finish this job....

If anyone can help me out with schematics, I'd really appreciate it.

What you should be looking for is the 42-pin connector, square, in the engine compartment The two halves bolt together. Located near the brake booster, kind of sits on the back of the 3.0, mine is currently under the booster.

If you need to re-pin anything, it would be here.
EVTM's are available from ebay and other sources, they will give the pin-out of this connector, so you will want a book for the Ranger, a book for the Ex.

I know what connector your referring to (see pic). Thing is that I swapped out both the engine harness and the lighting/fuse harness as well, so both sides of the connector you're referring to are Explorer.

Ah, you've goe too far, lol!

Don't some of those plugs you show go to the doors? I really can't help here, other than recommending the EVTM's. Best of luck.

I spent 12 hours today pining out the Explorer bulkheads thinking that I could probably then pin out the Ranger bulkheads and move the few wires that needed it. Within the first 15 wires on the Ranger, there were 5 wires I couldn't find yet and every position between the Explorer and Ranger appear to be different.

My 2000 Ranger that I'm swapping has torsion bars up front rather than coils and my HVAC control is different than my other 2000 Ranger, so I believe that I've got 2001 interior wiring.

No clue.

I swapped a '99 Explorer into a '98 Ranger and didn't have to touch that 3-connector block. Everything was plug and play except for a few transmission functions because I went from a manual to an automatic. I recommend not doing anything else without the wiring diagrams.

Any progress with the wiring?
Dave

Thanks for the follow up. I jumped into another thread and found out I swapped more harness than needed. I unnecessarily swapped the chassis harness out under hood. Put the V6 chassis harness back in, checked the Mitchell schematics and found that they were pinned pretty much the same with the exception of load leveling and some other stuff not used on Ranger.

I had to extend the horn, AC pressure switch on the hose at the condensor, the fuel vapor valve wiring, and change the connector for the starter wiring, but pretty easy. I still need to modify the trans harness at the DTRS due to my T5 option.

It's running today with the exhaust complete. I need to do a few minor things and I should be driving it around by Thurs. I'll post some pics when I get it cleaned up.

Well sure glad you backed up a bit and got it running. Hope you stick around and help others. It's normally not much of a wiring job with those years.
