i got a 2000 2wd ranger automatic. every nowandthen the "overdrive off" light flashes, doesn't downshift when i slowdown. acts like its stuck in 3rd gear. turn the truck off then on, everything resets and drives fine. any ideas? also, i got a 3in body lift, lookin for a little more lift. anything out there besides a $1000 fabtech lift? looking for something cheaper for the front, i'll do blocks in the back. new to the website so i hope i can get some good info here, thanks in advance.

sounds like you got major trans. issues. get under the hood and pull the tranny dipstick, get a clean white microfiber towel so as not to get fuzzies in your tranny fluid, and wipe the stick on it. Is the fluid a black or real dark yellow or brown? Also, does it smell like burnt toast? If so, you're looking into a trans. rebuild.

if u use blocks on the rear u can add a coil spacer on the front. u can only get a 2" spacer tho, if u go taller ull need a new upper A-arm.
try replacing the tranny fluids and filter. ive seen some acting funny when the fluid is too old.

does a 2000 have coils? mine does not...

I had a similar issue this winter. Mine shifted really hard. I checked my fluid and looked GTG. I just think the auto trans can be cold natured. Keep an eye on your fluid.

2wd 2000s have coils unless it is an edge. You can find coil spacers on ebay for 40 bucks. get the steel ones though for 98up previous years won't fit. check craigs list too you can usually find something on there. i got 3in lift spindles for 250.

Your transmission is probably about to expire. Same thing happened on a 2wd Ranger that my secretary's husband owns.

Yea i'm thinking the trany might be done. i can drive it like a manual, just shifts hard. i don't think the weather had anything to do with it, it was hot florida weather when it happend. haven't driven it in 7 months (depolyed to iraq) but i'm sure it'll be doing the same when i get home.
i thnk i'll go with the coil spacers, once the trans is fixed. i've never done coil springs but i'm sure its easy. might as well get new springs while i'm in there. thanks for the help.
