Got my self. well it is the future Mrs. jeep. :icon_twisted:
any who it has what sounds like a bearing noise when you take off and when the weather is cold. I know it is not coming from the inline 6. step on the gas in park and rev it up. no bearing noise.

checked the wheel bearings and all the u joints all seam well. any other ideas? the thing has 185,000 miles and the front seams real tight.:icon_thumby:

Have you checked the U-joints get under there and in neutral grab the driveshaft and wiggle it around or give them a shot of grease if they have zerts. Check your gearboxes for proper fluid level.

checked all the u joints. very tight. no i have not checked the fluid in any gear boxes

Teh XJs have an issue in the centering pin of the front driveshaft's double-cardan joint (t-case end). Generally, it's just shagged and dry & usually best to change it when you have a chance...

Failure isn't that big of a deal, but you will pick-up some additional vibrations (when moving) and you may drom the shaft if you apply throttle in 4wd...

To confirm the diagnosis, you can pull the front shaft and take a drive ;)
