trying to turn the wife's 2000 into a trail toy. It's use will be 90% dry pavement with the rest being Michigan snow, back roads, and trails. I'm thinking about a selectable locker up front, anybody know what's available?
it a late 2000 with live front axles, 3.73 open. I also have a 2004 diff with 4.10 gears that I could use instead.

Thanks, Perry

Should be a Dana 35 front diff, though if there are any differences between "normal" D35 diffs I'm not sure. Jeep offered the "D44A" aluminum housing differential, which has nothing in common with a D44 at all. See what I mean? It's a low pinion diff, so a rear D35 might work, you'd probably have to call around, maybe even the manufacturers themselves. There's probably a carrier break thing somewhere.

Don't mix and match gear ratios, if you change the front, you need to change the rear too. Otherwise you'll wind up with some pricey repair bills.

What do you have for the rear? Normally that's the one that gets locked first. Locked front wheels actually tend to make the vehicle go straight(er), regardless of how the wheels are turned. But it does it very well. Hence why most lock the rear first, you can steer much easier.

the truck currently has open 3.73's the rear being a 7.5
so far I've picked up a front 4.10 diff and a rear 8.8 axle with open 4.10, soon to change. switching from the 3.73 to 4.10 should help the 3.0 out, so long as I don't spend too much time on the interstates. Should be about 2700 rpms at 70 with 30" tires. Off-roading will be mild, no rock crawling or mud bogs.
I'm well acquainted with the loss of steering when lockers are used, that's why I want a selectable one.

See ya in da U. P !

I looked into electric selectable lockers for the front of my 02 Ranger. There is nothing available. It is possible that an air selectable locker is available but you will also have to install an on board air compressor. If you are not getting into serious off-roading, a good limited slip differential up front should work just fine.

I decided on a Torsen LSD up front to match the one in the rear. So far I am very happy with that combination. I do some pretty serious off-roading but still only a little mild rock crawling.

A Jeep rear D35 carrier 3.55 and higher is supposed to interchange with a RBV D35 TTB carrier. I kinda don't think a RBV TTB (90-97) and SLA (98-12) carrier will interchange but it would be easy enough to look up if you was interested in going that route.

Hear really good things about the torsen diff, love my torsen in the rear, chirps the tires all of the time and locks great. Will most likely get one for the front soon.
