my buddy called me last nite and said he had bought him a 2000 ranger, ext cab auto, 4.0l. ok he said the 4x4 didnt work in the truck AFTER he got it home. he went back to carlot and they put the truck on the lift, when 4x4 is operated from the switch on the dash, the light will come on every setting and the transfer case is wroking fine. that being said, my buddy said the drivers side axle would trun on the truck but that was it. neither wheel nor the passengers side axle turned while it was on the rack in 4x4. the owner ordered him a part that he said was the problem. (i have no ideal about this vechile i am going to look at it this afternoon and was just trying to get a few ideals). the part he got was a small box iam told that is right underneath the air intake line, my buddy says it has a vaccum line going into it and one coming out of it. the one going into the "box" has vaccum pressure on it, but the line coming out of thisn "box" that goes out to the HUBS has no vaccum pressure on it at all. what is this box he is referring to? could it actually be the problem, and it brand new from FORD? i know there is a possiblitly of anything happening, but i think it could be the hubs or something compared from what i have read about the 1998-2000 rangers. what else could it possibly be? what could be wrong with the hubs if it is the hubs.

thanks in advane.

Sounds like the vacuum solenoid. It controls when vacuum is applied to the hubs. My friend's went out. When you turn the switch on the dash, something need to apply vacuum to the hubs.

i have manual locking hubs for sale if interested

hubs

are they the manual AVM hubs? How much. need to get this thing fixed, it is the hubs that are bad.

$100 obo plus shipping. they are rugged ridge manual hubs same as avm
