Hey every! I’m in the process of swapping my 2000 3.0 4x4 ranger. I have a complete donor truck which is a 2000 Mountaineer. Both trucks have pats. Both run and drive. The Mountaineer is fully loaded. But was hit hard on the passenger side. Even pushed into the floor pan. My question is, is it pretty much the same going from a 3.0 to a 5.0 as it would be going from a 4.0 to a 5.0. I will post as many pictures and info as I can while I’m doing this.

Mostly. All the same parts have to get changed.

Also can the motor and trans get lifted out together in the ranger?

Yes. It's a lot of weight up really high by the time it clears the core support, but it can be done. My plan is to install the 5.0/4R70W combo as a set when it goes back in. Might have to pull the front wheels on the truck though, depending on whether the hoist can go up that much (I have 33's).

I let the air out of the tires on mine.

Very different engine bay but with a bodylift the 5.0/C5 went in easier than the 2.8/A4LD came out. The C5 is much shorter than the A4LD. I am not sure if the extra length of the 5.0 with a comparable length trans would have went back in.

The later trucks might have more room front to back though.

I will be using my twin line wrecker to pull and install mine

I used my tractor and boom pole to pull my 4.0. But I pulled the 4.0 separately because I did not want to fool with removing the transfer case. I installed the 5.0/4r70w as one unit. I had the transfer case extension housing bolted on and left the transfer case off. I would ease it down an inch and push down on the bell housing to help it move down. Took about 30 minutes and I had it in. Click on the sideways one and select view image it will straighten it out.

I like the color and it looks in pretty good shape. How much was it if you don't mind me asking.

Believe it or not it was free. I’ll have 35 bucks into the title transfer. But it was given to me by a customer of mine.

Wow good deal brother. It looks great on top.

That looks really good!

Waiting on some parts for my ranger. So I did this last night. In my beater Mountaineer. Took me about an hour or so. Everything works perfect! I’m going to pull it back out and wire loom and clean it up. But other than that it works great.
