Longer 2 piece driveshaft?

.

1993 supercab 2wd, had a 4.0 and whatever auto it came with.

Swapped in a 302 and an AOD.

The AOD is about 4" or so shorter than what was in there.

Did some Rangers have a longer front part of the shaft? Other options? Just wondering before I drive 80 miles to the junkyard...

The AOD shorter ? In my 89 SC, the stock length shaft was fine in going from the 2.9/M5ODR2 to a 302/C-4/Toploader 4 speed.

You might consider going to a one piece drive shaft. On Justin's 05 2wd extended cab, we had to get a shaft made. His was a 3.0 5R55E and went to a Explorer 5.0 2wd 4R70W. His drive shaft was 2 inches too short. A local shop made a new one for 229.99. It was spun balanced and all new joints using his diff flange and a yoke from a 02 Crown Vic. The total length center to center of the joints is 66 3/4 inches. I would say yours would be about the same.

Yep, the AOD is shorter. In the pic below you can see that the A4LD(?) is hanging off the front of the cart and is also longer at the tailshaft end. Did yours have a 2 piece shaft in it? Maybe I can get the shaft from a truck that had a manual transmission?

I thought about a new 1 piece shaft and that would certainly be my preferred solution, but there is a rather important looking crossmember that the carrier bearing mounts to that would need removed. I'll have to look into it a little more.

Yea, my 89 had a 2 pc shaft. It was only an inch short with the C-4 and Toploader 4 speed, I was able to move the hanger bearing a half inch forward to split the difference in the two slip yokes.

I also went with a one piece driveshaft on my 92 supercab. I spent about $200, but it was made from scratch at the driveline shop. 3 1/2" diameter monster shaft, that's not gonna snap anytime soon! :D

You don't have to remove the carrier bearing cross member but you will run into clearance issues with a larger diameter one piece shaft with a super cab. The cab floor would rub the shaft (93 E150 shaft shortened 2") when I had a passenger in the truck or had a load in the bed.
