Hey guys on my 88' ranger the truck is not charging the battery when it runs and i have already replaced the alternator so now i need to check the wiring..does anyone have a complete wiring diagram of the charging system on the truck? let me know thanks. -Bobby

have your battery tested! refer to a manual and check voltage at the leads to the alternator and battery while running this will tell you where your problem lies as for a diagram the leads don't go far to a main box under hood and feeds to the battery. sometimes a voltage regulator happened in my friends dodge i am unsure if these have one i am new to rangers, the dodge was in the main computer so instead of buying an ecu he installed a single wire alternator and wired it to his main box. seems to work good so far.

sounds like you have a bad fusable link. it comes off your starter solenoid and gose to the alt. Ford used a bunch of these on their auto's. Use a voltage meter to test on each side of the link. It will by a wide spot in the wire just off the solenoid. Use a straight pin on each lead of your meter and stick them in the insulation. set your meter for contnuity , if you don't get a tone then the fuse section has gone bad. You can run the engine and test to ground also. If you get voltage from the alt at 14+ volts going to the link but only 12 on the other side then again the link is bad. This is a good test before dumping a bunch of cash piece mealing the problem. hope this helps.:icon_thumby:
