Need help

My 2.9L V6 Ranger on start up it has a lifter ticking after a few seconds it goes away. Is there an oil additive I can use to fix this? I changed the oil and filter a month ago 10W-30 Valvoline synthetic blend and Napa Gold filter

This is entirely typical of the 2.9.

Many of these engines tick all the time, not just at start-up, so you might be doing better than you think. lol

There is Napa Auto parts here in this little town is there an oil additive that would help easy this issue? When I went through the drive through at this burger joint I could hear it ticking. Winter coming I hope this truck don't mess up where it don't run I will be in a pickel

Generally speaking there isn't a lot you can do. It has to do with the overall design of the engine, how the lifters are supposed to get oil is a poor design.

Make sure your engine has enough oil in it. If you leak oil, keep it topped up. As you lose oil the tick will get louder.

Hearing it ticking when your somewhere like a drive-thru, where you have a wall right beside you for the sound to bounce off of isn't a big surprise either. My truck you can hear it inside the cab, with the windows up all the time.

I found Seafoam engine treatment to be pretty good for that. It's the best engine treatment I've ever used.

Few years ago a buddy of mine had a 90 ranger with a 2.9.
350k miles. You heard the engine tick before you heard the truck :)

Even my b2 with a rebuilt motor had a small tick.

My 1990 B2 with less than 10K on a rebuilt engine has a tick too for a minute everyday in the morning
