The 2 year old motor in my 88 ranger will start fine but will sometimes not restart. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and it fires right up. It sounds like an almost dead battery when I try to start it. Makes that rur,,,,rur,,,,, sound. Maybe a starter that is going but I want your input before I replace it.

check your battery cables, clean them really well, look for bulging /split cables with corrosion. grounds too

maybe time for a tune up, plugs, plug wires, filters.. etc. how much driving is on it, more short trips?
check your TFI, aka ignition module, and yes check the starter, could be that the bushing/bearings are sloppy.

my truck does the same thing n it took me a while but i realized the other day that it doesn't seem to go all the way into park . . . so if u push the shifter all the way up it should start n if not just try turning the key to "on" n then shift to neutral, then try startin it . . . should work . . .good luck

sounds like the truck is overheating, or has a headgasket leak, a bronco of mine would do that, and not want to start again after it was shut off
