hi guys, new here so maybe someone can help me out. have 88 ranger 4-wheel drive with a 2.9 5-speed. has new plugs, wires, cap and rotor button, fuel filter, coil, fuel pump relay, and ecm. ok here is the problem that occured problaly 2 weeks ago. you turn the truck on to start and you hear the fuel pump. you start the truck and it might die right then or it runs fine, but if it dies you cut the switch off and then back on and you won't hear the fuel pump and it won't start then either, but you can turn the switch on and off until you hear the fuel pump and then it will start again maybe it will run on the first time or maybe it won't. so i bought a obd1 scanner and scanned the codes and the number on continues was 41 which is the 02sensor and the other code is 96 which is fuel pump secondary circuit fault/high speed fuel pump relay open. is that a different relay than the one that i replaced which is located on the passenger side fender under the hood. thanks for any help yall can give me

recheck grounds on the frame, battery, block etc, there is several...& connections.

Think'n that there is a fusable link between the battery and the relays, sometimes that can be compromised so that full/correct voltage isn't getting to the relays. Look for bad/frayed wire from the FP relay to the FP

May want to have the TFI checked too.

thanks for the input. that link that runs from the ground wire on the battery? a buddy of mine looked at it when all of this started and he unplugged it and plugged it back up and yesterday he mentioned that it didn't fit snug to him so he said cut it off and connect the wires together and just bye pass it. is that a good thing to do or not? i might try that and see if that works and if it does not work just reconnect it.
