I washed my truck yesterday and sprayed some degreaser on my engine and it wont fire. its trying i mean the starter is working but no fire in the engine. any suggestions?

Verify fuel pressure at the fuel rail fitting and verify spark using a spare spark plug laying on the aluminum intake (ground). Tell us which is missing.

If it's spark that is missing, you could have a bad coil or Ignition Module (ICM).

Another telling test is to simply turn the key to Run (not all the way to Crank) and see if the Check Engine Light comes on. If so, the engine PCM is getting power (PCM relay) and the fuel pump relay should be turning on the fuel pump (you'll hear it run for 2 sec each time you go from Off to Run).

okay i tried the spark plug and i have spark. but where is the fuel rail fitting and how do i check for pressure?

You need a fuel pressure tester.

The valve is on the fuel rail. Its on the driver side just above the head on that side. It's a scrader valve like on a bike tube or your trucks tires.

Okay thank you. I don't have a tester. But I have a mechanic coming by to take a look. Thanks for your help.

You'll get a strong spray if it has good pressure.
As in, cover it with a rag and expect a good gush when you depress the pin.
Watch your eyes.

If you aren't getting that, check for 12v at the inertia switch connector - only one of the two pins (right where the passenger's toes hit, under the carpet), the other pin routes power to the fuel pump.

No voltage there is usually a bad fuel pump relay, the green one next to the brown PCM relay.

That voltage will only be there for that same 2 seconds, which primes the fuel pressure prior to cranking the starter. That 12v should be constant when cranking the starter. If you have all that and can't hear the fuel pump run, clean the grounds under the hood (fenders and radiator support) and try again. If still no go, your fuel pump is bad (could have two pumps depending on the year - one in the tank and the high pressure pump on the driver side frame rail.

my mechanic came and looked at it and he said it could be a couple of things. like the timing. but hes towing it back to his shop. this is as far as i will be going with it. thank you!

Stupid question but could be the answer did you cover your distributer when you washed it? Could water have gotten on it?

Edit: Never mind ignore that question. I reread the thread and you said you had spark.

Having spark and having strong spark are two different things though.
I would think you have a cracked dizz cap or bad seal on it and water /grease go it.

I`m leaning toward fuel pump relay if it is getting spark. No matter what he does make sure he shows you any and all parts he replaced. If it just needs to be dried out did you check the air filter was not wet and did if fire or just crank. I would be hesitant to pay for any parts i cant see unless you really trust this guy.

I'm sure he does (or he wouldn't pay a tow bill to his shop. Hopefully)

SO any update ?
